by metric on 2006-06-19 02:21:24Assuming a 1 gram piece of cheese. At the speed of light, the kinetic energy, in joules, of the cheese would be it's velocity squared over two. Let us also assume the 1 gram of cheese is traveling at the speed of light (299792458 m/s). That would mean that this piece of cheese has about 44,937 TJ (terajoules) of energy on impact. For comparison, Little Boy released about 63 terajoules on Hiroshima. For every gram of cheese we add, this figure doubles.... it's not hard to imagine a piece of cheese capable of disintegrating 8 miles of titanium... discounting the question of what the actual mass of the titanium is. -

by zeroKnots on 2006-08-09 18:40:29I'm guessing Einstien would agree, because if the cheese was at C, it is infinite mass encompassing the entire universe to annihilate the titanium. Moot point? I've got one for you. Theyve now slowed and stopped light dead in it's tracks in some kind of gas chamber. I've always believed that light had zero existance, but travelling at C, `it` was promoted to existing, but with near zero mass. So if it stops, it should be some kind of interface with the non-existant. Pure Art Bell type useless stuff, I know.
