by anonymous on 2006-12-24 11:04:43The 00-03 manual transmission Honda Insights have the tendency to heavily "buck" while driving. My dealer and I tried just about everything a few years ago, but couldn't fix it. In the end, they told me there was no problem. I've been driving around the past few years with my EGR valve blocked off with a plate of steel which has fixed the problem completely.
The only issue now is getting the car inspected. Blocking the valve off causes an error code and the engine light to turn on. Before getting my car inspected, I have to take the plate out and pull one of the leads to the 12V battery to reset the computer. Then drive around until the light turns off, and get it inspected. The shaking/bucking returns until the plate is put back in.
DISCLAIMER: it is a violation of federal law to tamper with your emission system, so this procedure is illegal in the US. -

The tricky part is getting a plate of stainless steel of the right shape. Basically, I found a sheet of steel and used large bolt clippers to cut out the shape. After that I used small drill bits for holes at the bolt locations, and switched to larger and larger bits until the hole was the right size. -

by anonymous on 2008-10-13 15:07:19I had the same problem and it was getting worse. I took out the EGR valve turned it updide down and filled it up with WD-40. I let this sit for a couple of hours. I also spayed the ports (2) on the engine with WD-40. I used quite a bit. I put EGR back and started down the street. It ran very rough at first and it blew out alot of blue smoke. I ran it hard and it cleaned out the EGR ports. This totally fixed the bucking problem. I am running smooth at all speeds!
